With the introduction of Open Class this year we had eight alpaca registrants for the obstacle courses in addition to llamas, which was quite a nice addition.  Spectators had lots of questions regarding the differences between the two.  Morning Sunshine was again driven around the fairgrounds to the delight of fairgoers, and also participated in the Round Robin competition as an FFA fill-in.

There was a bit of excitement this year when a large fire broke out next to the sheep barn (which is next to the llama arena).  A new large "Fire & Water" display trailer burnt to the ground with a pair of 500gal propane tanks right next to it.  The llamas, alpacas and handlers hastily evacuated the area while in the midst of the costume competition, but the sheep were all trapped next to the blaze.  The fire dept. initially couldn't get their big fire trucks into the area due to the narrow roadways, parked cars/trailers and chained gates.  It could have been a major disaster with considerable loss of life but fortunately the fair staff swooped in with a trailer load of fire extinguishers and got the blaze under control.
