Llama Tracking

Home

One of the risks of backcountry packing is becoming separated from your llamas.  Not only can this quickly spoil an outing, it could jeopardize your llamas safety.  Have the peace of mind knowing that should this ever happen you can quickly find them.

And for those that are averse to relying on a GPS navigation device because of complexity or short battery life and all you want to do is find your way back to the truck, just leave a transmitter at the vehicle and let the receiver point the way back.  (Or just let your llama lead the way.)

We can provide a classic Tracker radio receiver, paired with an Intelo transmitter mounted on a llama collar, along with a sturdy padded carrying case (for storage and transport) and cordura holster (for packing).

  • Watertight under adverse conditions
  • 720+ hours of battery life under continuous use (3.6V AA full height)
  • Weighs 7.6 ounces (including collar)

Classic Receiver

With the core features needed to locate and track one or two transmitters, the Classic features simplified usage and great reception. Tracker Classic Receiver

  • Signal direction indicated by a series of lights and audible “beeps” from the on-board speaker
  • 11 LED lights that indicate the direction of best signal strength
  • Attenuator simplifies tracking when the transmitter is near
  • Frequency Fine Adjustment compensates for drift allowing the receiver to be accurately tuned to the transmitter
  • Pocket-sized receiver weighs less than one pound

Range
The Classic receiver is rated at 12 miles line of sight; 4-7 miles in rolling hills and 2.5 - 4 miles in mountainous areas. However there are numerous factors that can effect this range, such as: transmitter strength; ground cover; moisture and receiver antenna being used.

Pricing
Classic systems available as either one or two llama units begin at $499.  This is sufficient for most packers being that llamas tend to stick together.  However, the Maxima receiver is also available as an option if more transmitters need to be tracked:
